Charles Town Farmers Market

Market Information

Charles Town Farmers Market offers more than just fresh and local products. Go out on an 8a run with members of the Bros and Bras running group, and listen to live music from 10a to 12p while you enjoy a cup of coffee from Black Dog Coffee.

Are you a SNAP recipient? Swipe your EBT card and double, triple, quadruple, or quintuple your bucks! Stop by the Information Tent and ask how it works.

In a normal year, regular programs include “Walk with the Doc” where you can take a walk with a WVU medical doctor and ask questions, learn about nutrition or just enjoy a conversation with a medical professional.  You don’t even have to undress and wear a hospital gown!

For the kids, in a normal year we have Market Explorers. Youngsters can enjoy some games while learning about nutrition, market vendors and other food, farm, and nature-related things.

Or (again, in a normal year) enjoy one of our many special events including “Kids Day,”  “ Dog Day,” “Health and Wellness Day” and “Craftapaloozagonza.”

100% Local

What does local mean? To us, it means within a 50-mile radius of the 100 blocks of Samuel St., Charles Town West Virginia.

Most product at our market is sourced within 15 or 20 miles. We allow ourselves the extra mileage to bring a greater variety of products and to widen our vendor and customer base.

Jefferson County borders Maryland and Virginia, and southern Pennsylvania isn’t too far away. We welcome the chance to be good neighbors to our bordering states and counties, and it gives our native Jefferson County vendors a chance to branch out to a wider audience.

The Charles Town Farmers Market is one of the premier farmers markets in the Shenandoah Valley!

Supporting Local Farmers & Sustainable Agriculture since 2010

In the summer of 2010, a committee was put together to discuss the future of the floundering Jefferson Farmers Market. After several sessions, it was decided to hold a public meeting and ask our community, “What do you want your farmers market to be?”

Attending the meeting was about 40 or so shareholders including city and county officials, local farmers and community members. After almost two hours of discussion and filling out a survey, the committee was set, the name and location were changed and a plan was decided on.  So, on we marched armed with a direction, a unique partnership with the City of Charles Town and an untraveled road ahead of us.

The following April the Charles Town Farmers Market was introduced to the community. Starting with a committee of five, no volunteers and about 15 vendors, CTFM has grown to include over 35 full or part-time vendors, a volunteer crew of 12 or so and loyal following resulting in CTFM being named the 6th best market in the state of West Virginia in 2018. We have live music every Saturday, feature a local business and local nonprofit every weekend and special monthly events including “Health and Wellness” day, a Farm Fresh 5K race, a “Kids Day” to introduce kids to the world of small business, two craft days which area special guest crafters are brought in, our popular dog day which includes demo’s from the Sheriff department’s K9, a “Walk with the Doc” series and a kids “ Market Explorer” series, plus many other unique activities.

In late 2017 a managing umbrella nonprofit was formed called The Jefferson Growers Artisans and Producers Coalition to oversee CTFM and the addition of our sister indoor market, Bushel & Peck.  And to allow for the addition of future projects that include a Farm 2 School program, educational demos, and community engagement.

So come out and join us, April to October, 9am to 12 noon for an amazing community experience.
